ERD 2013: European Report on Development

The European Report on Development 2013 addressed the topic “Development in a Changing World: Elements for a Post-2015 Global Agenda". The objective of the Report was to provide an independent European contribution to the emerging debate on a possible post-2015 development agenda, which would replace the Millennium Development Goals framework. In examining this issue, the Report analysed Europe’s role as a major global actor in advancing development cooperation policies, as well as other policies beyond aid that influence development outcomes in developing countries.

Projektbeschreibung

The fourth edition of European Report on Development (ERD), published in mid-2013, addressed the emerging debate on the post-2015 global agenda on development and considered the main challenges for the next 15 years. The ERD research team was addressing the following questions:

  1. What are the key elements of a global framework that would help to focus efforts on poverty eradication over the next decades?
  2. What would the poorest countries need and want, if anything, from a new global development framework?
  3. What can Europe contribute?

Background information

The European Report on Development (ERD) is the main output of the “Mobilising European Research for Development Policies” initiative, supported by the European Commission and seven EU Member States (Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom). The ERD is an independent research report, prepared by some of the leading EU development academics and research institutes. The first ERD dealt with the topic of fragility, and the second with the topic of social protection. The third edition of the ERD, entitled “Confronting scarcity: managing water, energy and land for inclusive and sustainable growth”, was launched in May 2012.
The ERD 2013 was being prepared by a consortium of three European development institutes: The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) in Bonn – the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) in Maastricht - the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in London.
