Germany's new government: what changes for development and foreign policies?

The coalition agreement for a new German government is now in place. How does a future CDU/CSU and SPD government wants to rethink and organise its relations with actors in the Global South and German development policy?

IDOS experts will provide first assessments with regard to Germany's foreign policies in a virtual press briefing on Wednesday, 16 April 2025, 9-10 (CEST) addressing the following topics:

• A German counterpoint to Trumpism or what structural changes can be expected in the field of development policy?
  PD Dr. Stephan Klingebiel, Head of Research Department „Inter- and transnational Cooperation“ at IDOS
• Germany’s answer to international economic and trade policy at a crossroads
  Dr. Axel Berger, Deputy Director (interim) at IDOS
• Integrated security: Next steps for development, security, and foreign policy
  PD Dr. Julia Leininger, Head of Research Department “Transformation of Political (Dis-)order” at IDOS and Co-Chair of the German Federal Government’s Advisory Board Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding

The briefing will take place in English, but questions can also be asked in German.
