Lateinamerika

Lateinamerika gilt als die demokratischste aller Entwicklungsregionen. Trotz beachtlicher Fortschritte bei der wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Entwicklung in den vergangenen Jahren ist die Region jedoch auch immer noch durch Armut und soziale Ungleichheit gekennzeichnet. Die Abhängigkeit der lateinamerikanischen Ökonomien von Rohstoffen und wenig verarbeiteten Gütern hat sich in der letzten Dekade wieder deutlich erhöht. Viele Länder kombinieren dies mit solidem makroökonomischem Management und klugen Verteilungspolitiken, aber die wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Risiken des rohstoffbasierten Entwicklungspfades sind dennoch hoch und die Kosten des steigenden Umweltverbrauchs durch Bergbau, industrielle Landwirtschaft und Entwaldung drohen künftige Entwicklungschancen der Region zu beeinträchtigen.

Das German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) forscht vor allem zu folgenden Themen mit regionalem Bezug zu Lateinamerika:

  • Fiskalische Dezentralisierung
  • Rohstoffrente und Entwicklung
  • Kriminelle Gewalt und Governancereform
  • Grünes Wachstum: Planung und Umsetzung
