MGG Academy Curriculum

Setup and contents of the MGG Academy

The MGG Academy consists of three components in the areas of knowledge, leadership and action:

KNOWLEDGE

The academic modules of the MGG Academy provide a space for dialogue and mutual learning. They address current global governance and sustainability challenges. They focus on the overall question of how a transformation to sustainability can be fostered in times of polycrisis, growing polarisation and geopolitical tensions. This includes the discussion of topics such as climate change, digitalisation and inequality.
Study trips to Brussels and Berlin add first-hand practical insights into policy making. In Berlin, the module “International Futures” is organised jointly with the Federal Foreign Office. It explores opportunities and challenges for diplomacy in the age of globalisation.

LEADERSHIP

The leadership modules aim at strengthening individual and collective leadership competences. A strong focus is put on self-leadership, the reflection of own values and mindsets, and the identification of motivation and leverage points to unlock one’s own leadership potential. Self-reflection plays a pivotal role in this process, as it enables participants to gain deeper insights into their behaviours, strengths, and areas for growth, fostering greater clarity and alignment in their leadership actions. Another emphasis lies on the development of cooperation competences, including perception and communication, leveraging diversity and facilitating cooperation. The leadership modules are based on a holistic set of learning methods that include reflection, exercises, dialogue as well as experiential learning with head, heart and hands. Individual coaching sessions support the participants in their leadership journey.

ACTION

The action component supports participants to move towards action and implementation. It consists of transformative skills workshops and a network in action week.
The transformative skills workshops cover cooperation and facilitation; innovation and agile project management; as well as didactics and learning design. All workshops are practice-oriented and connect to the experiences and needs of participants. In the “network in action” week, participants develop joint projects around shared interests or engage in existing activities of the MGG network. Working in small and diverse teams, participants get the opportunity to apply their expertise and competences for the development of a concrete product, such as a joint strategy, conference contributions or learning formats. The network in action week is the entry and transition point for the engagement in the broader MGG network.
