one research assistant (f/m/diverse)
for the research Project “Protecting Democracy in times of Autocratization and Polarization”. The project team conducts research on the drivers and consequences of autocratization. We aim to identify international strategies and development policy options that protect and promote democracy, social cohesion and peace in face of the global trends of autocratization and polarization.
We are looking for students enrolled in a master's programme in:
- social sciences including political science, international relations, sociology, public policy, economics, international development, etc., or
- quantitative/computational fields including statistics, computer science, data analytics/science, information systems, machine learning/artificial intelligence, etc.
Requirements: (e.g.):
- Good knowledge of and previous experience with data processing programs (R or Stata) is a requirement, in particular data management and visualization.
- A demonstrated interest in project-related topics such as polarization, democracy, conflict, digitalization, and autocratization.
- Some background in statistical analysis, survey and experimental design, or computational methods is an asset, but not a requirement.
- Some exposure to web scraping or API data collection is an advantage but not required.
- Experience with internet-based literature research and literature management software (e.g. Endnote) is an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal English is required; knowledge of French or Spanish is an asset.
- Willingness to contribute to organizing events at IDOS and be present on-site two days per week.
- Detail-oriented, capable of working independently and in a team setting.
