Sanitation Governance and its Implications on Planetary Health

The research team examines the interactive nature of statutory rules and social norms in facilitating the flows, practices and spatiality of sanitation management and its implication on planetary health in Nakuru, Kenya. The team will apply different approaches to analyze the structures and mechanisms governing the behavior of water utility companies, regulating authorities, municipal bodies, households, and individuals, and their ecological and health impacts. It plans to use a combination of geospatial tools, statistical techniques and integrated modelling to examine the structure, mechanisms and process of decision-making at different levels. This is study is carried out in collaboration with UN_HABITAT (GWOPA), Nakuru Water Sanitation and Service Company (NAWASSCO) and Egerton University. It will contribute towards the preparedness of the Nakuru city authorities, given diverse risks, to ensure safe hygiene and improved health outcomes.
