Project description
The Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) is a United Nations publication at the interface between scientific findings and political implementation of the 2030 Agenda. It will be presented to the UN High Level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York. Its purpose is to assist the follow-up and review process of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Based on the findings of the last GSDR from 2016, the new GSDR will be published in 2019 by an independent group of 15 international researchers.
At the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) there are several reseach lines dealing with the integrated implementation of the Agenda 2030. Existing DIE knowledge is well suited to complement the tranformation chapters intended for the GSDR 2019. Input from DIE will contribute to the debates about integrated implementation and its tranformative potential in the following fields: Governance and political regimes as framework for integrated SDG implementation, inequality reduction, institutional structures for integrated implementation and coherence between climate and sustainability policies.
Furthermore, DIE will contribute a methodological discussion about dealing with interdependencies among SDGs in scientific literature as well as its implementions in political practice. These content-based thematic blocs will be complemented by a number of country studies. All contributions to GSDR will be critically reflected with actors from the global South in the context of a stakeholder review process. Following the publication of the report, outreach activities will promote the integration of the findings of the report into local implementation structures.
