Project description
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides a global framework for tackling development challenges. Development cooperation will make an important contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The overall monitoring and review framework of the 2030 Agenda is still evolving towards ensuring better accountability for implementing the SDGs.
Development cooperation as a policy area has a long history of promoting the quality of development cooperation activities and setting standards for monitoring and reviewing of development cooperation activities with the aim of improving mutual accountability. The development effectiveness agenda of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) and the mutual accountability surveys of the United Nations Development Cooperation Forum (DCF) are two important building blocks of the global development cooperation architecture. In the context of changing paradigms including the universal SDGs and ‘beyond aid’ thinking, one major challenge is to adapt the experiences from monitoring development cooperation and improve the overall accountability functions of the 2030 agenda.
