In the past, the tensions between the economic and environmental dimensions received a lot of attention: between economic growth and the conservation of nature. Also, the pro-poor growth debate has reflected at length on trade-offs and synergies between the economic and social dimensions: between economic growth, poverty reduction and social justice. But very little has been published so far on the relationship between the social and environmental dimensions.
