Nobel Prize Winner Joseph Stiglitz in Berlin

Nobel Prize Winner Joseph Stiglitz in Berlin

Press Release of 9 March 2009

As a consequence of the world financial crisis, the President of the UN General Assembly established the UN-Commission of Experts on Reforms of the International Monetary and Financial System in the fall of 2008. The Commission is chaired by Joseph Stiglitz, the 2001-winner of the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.

In the run-up to the second meeting of the Stiglitz-Commission in March in Geneva, Stiglitz speaks at the International Policy-Dialogue: “The Global financial crisis and international financial architecture: governance perspectives for developing countries” in Berlin, organised by InWEnt and the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE). The Policy-Dialogue aims to generate ideas on development policy and involve a broader range of experts in the current discussion process. At the same time, the event – commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development – is intended to contribute to achieving greater policy coherence.

In addition to high-level experts of the Stiglitz-Commission, leading representatives from developing and emerging countries, the World Bank, the IMF, the multinational development banks, international financial institutions, think-tanks and civil society are attending the International Policy-Dialogue.
