Imme Scholz is the new Deputy Director of the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik

Bonn, 4 June 2009. Imme Scholz is the new Deputy Director of the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE). This information was relayed today by Dirk Messner, Director of the German Development Institute. Scholz succeeds Jürgen Wiemann, who will become a trade policy advisor for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH.
“With Scholz, the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik will have a Deputy Director with an excellent reputation as a development and environmental researcher in Germany and abroad who also brings with her a long track record in advising policymakers”, states DIE-Director Messner. Her fields of expertise include the environment and development, climate change, global environmental governance, and forest policy.
Mrs. Scholz, who holds a doctorate in Sociology, has been a researcher with the German Development Institute since 1992. In 2002 she became Head of the Institute’s Environment Department. Between 1999 and 2002 Scholz was an advisor to the Ministry of the Environment of Pará State in the Brazilian rain forest for a programme on Natural Resource Policy. Scholz is a member of the North South Advisory Group to the Heinrich Böll Foundation and Vice Chair of the Chamber for Sustainable Development of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD).
