New Website of “Käte Hamburger Kolleg” is online

Duisburg, 17 September 2012. The Käte Hamburger Kolleg / Centre for Global Cooperation Research is excited to announce the launch of its official website at http://www.gcr21.org/. The site complements the work of the Centre and will help to realise one of the main goals to encourage knowledge exchange between the Centre, academics, diplomats, practitioners and the interested public worldwide. The website allows users to access information about the Centre, its interdisciplinary research fellows, their research topics, upcoming events and the published research findings.

Commenting on the launch, Tobias Debiel, Managing Director of the Centre, said “In order to achieve a clearly-structured yet modern website with a touch of personality, the Centre takes up a courageous concept of colour.” Six core colours of each site area reflect the idea of internationality and interdisciplinary of the Centre. A clean, easier-to-navigate design template helps our users to quickly access the searched information. The website also features an innovative selection tool called “Filter”, which enables the users to personalise the site by interactively selecting the information presented on the pages.

Based on the main research focus “cooperation”, the Centre recognises its obligation for the “Open-Access” concept. The Centre is, therefore, committed to make its research findings and relevant documents available to interested publics with no limitation. “It should bring down the barriers for both German and international users to participate in our work”, expects Debiel.

In the coming months, the website will be complimented by future features including an “Online Handbook” and the official Facebook-page. These additional elements will keep the users informed of the current status of the Centre’s research and will enhance the communication between the Centre and the users.

The Centre in Brief:
The Käte Hamburger Kolleg / Centre for Global Cooperation Research is an interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen. Our Centre is the tenth and the last Käte Hamburger Kolleg supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany. Our research focuses on the chances for global cooperation in the 21st century. Interdisciplinary research fellows from all regions of the world examine the opportunities and challenges of global cooperation amidst political-cultural difference in the world society. Our work is organised in four research units: the (im)possibility of cooperation (Unit 1), global conflicts of culture and transcultural cooperation (Unit 2), global governance revisited (Unit 3), and paradoxes and perspectives of democratisation (Unit 4). The Centre offers a setting for joint learning among international research fellows and seeks a close dialogue with policy-makers, diplomats and representatives of civil society. The Centre is co-established by the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), the Institute for Development and Peace/Institut für Entwicklung und Frieden (INEF) and the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen.
