Member states of the United Nations are now negotiating reform proposals for the world body’s development system. In the latest draft resolution, they welcome the secretary-general’s proposal for “advancing common business operations”. This is a minor element of the overall reform package, but it could be crucial for the entire reform process to succeed. An analysis of documents from UN country teams around the world suggests that the UN could save $363 millions per year through common business operations, while at the same reducing hurdles for interagency collaboration on the ground.
