Information
Adapting the design of green industrial policy instruments to a country’s needs, circumstances and capacities greatly increases the likelihood of successful implementation. Public bidding processes, for example, may lower the costs of a policy and increase its acceptability. However, they require experience and expertise. As in all other policy fields, there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ best-practice green industrial policy. However, governments may strive to identify a best fit. To support this endeavour, Pegels and Becker give an overview of existing green industrial policy instruments, shedding light on the required implementation capabilities and on the effects of specific instrument design options on rent distribution. As the huge variety of instrument design calls for illustrative examples, Pegels and Becker focus on a particularly relevant green industrial policy field, namely support for renewable energies.
