Contributions of Development Policy to the Global Common Good
Development policy has undergone some major changes in recent years, with the emergence of a far more dynamic environment. Dependency on development cooperation resources is declining in many places, while the partnership opportunities on offer to developing countries are increasing. Additionally, the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has realigned the system of targets; more attention is being devoted to addressing cross-border issues, such as climate change and migration. Instruments and mechanisms are also being expanded, for example, with a greater focus on mobilising private resources. Moreover, there has been significant growth in other forms of cooperation, especially at South-South level.
This cluster deals with cooperation approaches in development policy. The primary question is: How will development policy actors respond to the enormous changes in general conditions at international level? How should development policy be reshaped to contribute to promoting the global policy of the common good in light of global dynamics and the entirely new conditions in developing countries and emerging economies? How can we incorporate evidence more effectively into decision-making processes?
