Ukraine’s Reconstruction and European Integration: How to Build Back Better?

Event Type
Virtual Seminar

Location / Date
Online, 27.04.2023

Organiser

University of Göttingen, German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS)

The session will take place on April 27th at 3:00 pm (UTC+2). The two speakers are Yulia Rybak, Co-Head of German–Ukrainian Energy Partnership & Adviser to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, and Julian Bergmann, Senior Researcher at IDOS.

Although Russia’s war against Ukraine is still ongoing, it is already clear that a huge international effort will be required to support Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery. Preparations for this are already underway. In July 2022, the Ukrainian government presented a National Recovery Plan that envisions a deep transformation of the country. G7 countries and the EU together with Ukraine have set-up a multi-agency donor coordination platform to support the country’s reconstruction process. A key task will be to put the ambition of “building back better” into practice and combining Ukraine’s reconstruction with its path towards European Union membership.

The 3D seminar is a monthly 45-minute online forum for policy and research exchange. Sessions take place on Thursdays once a month (usually the last Thursday in a month) from 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm (Berlin time). Two speakers – one researcher and one practitioner – touch upon key topics in development policy with the goal of stimulating a meaningful dialogue across the theory and practice divide. All participants will be muted during the presentations. In the Q&A, the moderator will open the microphone to participants that indicate to have a question via zoom’s “raise hand” button.
