The world economy in times of COVID-19: Implications for development policy
Event Type
Virtual Workshop
Location / Date
Online, 07.12.2020
German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE)
The Covid-19 pandemic represents a stress test for global economic governance and has far reaching effects for developing countries. This is particularly true in light of the global community’s ambition to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as a key policy agenda to ensure a fairer and more inclusive globalisation. The online workshop brings together a select group of international experts and policy-makers to reflect on current challenges in the global economy for developing countries in the areas of financing for development, trade and investment, in particular in view of the current Covid-19 pandemic. Special emphasis will be laid on new empirical findings and policy proposals that are the outcomes of a three-year research project on “Fair Globalisation” at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE). The workshop will reflect on future research needs and implications for development policy to advance a fairer and more inclusive global economic governance.
