The fourth lecture in the INTERFACES colloquium series on “Sustainable land management in sub‐Saharan Africa: Improving livelihoods through local research” was on 30 November 2023 by Juliane Wiesenhütter and Nina Bisom, from GIZ on “United for Land – Partners, networks and contributions from a German perspective”.

They introduced the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and its activities and showed how Germany contributes to UNCCD’s land agenda, such as through its science-policy interface (SPI) or the Global Database for best practices in sustainable land management (WOCAT). The talk also looked at the economic perspective of sustainable land management by introducing the international Economics of Land Degradation Initiative (ELD) and also explained how INTERFACES and the Regional Projects may connect with UNCCD, ELD and other international processes.
