The UNDP Human Development Report Office (HDRO), the German UN Association and the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) held an informal day-long discussion on three possible themes for forthcoming Human Development Reports, including i) the rising global south, ii) the developmental state and iii) the post 2015 agenda and their significance for advancing human development, as well as future directions for measurement of human progress. The objective was to seek informed perspectives, identify both available research and expertise as well as understand where more research may be needed and what are the critical policy challenges.

The meeting was part of a series of consultations, which HDRO is conducting on report themes with policy makers, top academics and leading activist and opinion leaders across a range of disciplines and regions (including in Addis Ababa, Rabat, Tokyo, Cambridge (US) and with the Human Development and Capability Association). The Bonn meeting targeted Europe-based experts.
