The Managing Global Governance (MGG) Public Lecture series continues with Prof Dr Mehmet Arda and Dr. Eckhard Deutscher. In a public and interactive dialogue, the two of them discussed Turkey’s role in Global Governance.

Mehmet Arda is a professor at the Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (EDAM), Galatasaray University in Istanbul. Until his call to Istanbul Prof. Arda worked for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva and lectured at the University of Ankara.

Eckhard Deutscher has been working with GIZ in Ankara since 2011 as Head of Project in the area of triangular cooperation. From 2008 to 2010 he was the President of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), and between 2000 and 2007 he represented Germany as Executive Director at the World Bank.

How can Turkey contribute to a global development agenda? What is its specific role as a secular Muslim state that has close ties to MENA countries as well as Europe? How do recent domestic events impact on Turkey’s foreign policy and its stance in the region?

Our new dialogue format is meant to address these and other questions, drawing on inputs from our two speakers and from your side. The session was chaired by Thomas Fues, Head of the Training Department

The MGG format for young professionals from eight emerging economies is on to the 11th round this year. The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and GIZ implement it jointly on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ).
