Call for bids: Expert on “Civil Society and Civic Spaces in Bangladesh”

The German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) in Bonn plans to contract an Expert on “Civil Society and Civic Spaces in Bangladesh”.

IDOS is conducting a study that aims to generate insights based on research evidence from Bangladesh to answer broad thematic research questions related to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).

Timeline and Tasks

Approx. 01 March 2025 Project Start

  • Provide comments on the project’s concept note and data collection strategy and instruments.
  • Assist in securing the ethical approval and research permit from competent authorities in Bangladesh if applicable.
  • Enlist and map stakeholders relevant for the study, including a list of at least 15 interviewees provided by IDOS.
  • Conduct 30 semi-structured interviews, transcribe and translate (if not conducted in English language) the interviews.
  • Co-organise with the PI, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with key stakeholders to discuss study findings and compile a documentation of the FGD.
  • Submit a report based on the interviews and FGD data and required document research.

Approx. 31 May 2025     Project End

 

Qualification of the Expert Consultant

The consultant is expected to be knowledgeable about the subjects of civil society, civic space and development cooperation and an expert on politics in Bangladesh. S/he will preferably hold an advanced degree (preferably a PhD) in Social or Political Science or a related discipline and have several years of working experience.

  • Latest 30 June 2025        Submission of final invoice
  • 31 July 2025       End of contract
